meet the owners, Kiza and Malenga Mukandama
Both Kiza and Malenga were born in the Democratic Republic of Congo. They migrated to the United States in 2010 and now live and work in Lexington, KY.
They have a family of five children ranging from five to twenty two. Kiza is an Artist and Pastor at a local church, Lifebridge International Church of the Nazarene, where he shepherds Swahili and French speaking immigrants from Congo and various Central African countries. Malenga is a hardworking Mompreneur, also focussing on empowering the African Immigrant Community of Lexington. O’Hana Market was born as a result of that desire to help her countrymen with their transition and settlement in the US. “This area is home to Africa,” Malenga Says. “You have Francophone West Africans, Tunisians, Ethiopians, Somalians, Sudanese, Nigerians. Everybody’s here and FOOD brings us together as Africans.”
Malenga wants her grocery store to be a one-stop shop for everything Africa. Customers can find traditional African food, clothing and beauty products on its shelves, including rows and rows of hair weaves in every colour, length and style.
We strive to provide the community with high-quality local and international produce and products at a competitive price. As such, we are dedicated to providing our customers with the best shopping experience that offers freshness, great value, and choice.
We are happy to say that helping our customer focus more on what they love to do, while we make their shopping experience a delight is what we do best. We understand that Home is far, and that is why we are bringing the African Market to your doorstep!
